Committee 2016-17

From the outset we have been a dynamic group, with a broad range of activities. We have participated in, and enjoyed, a broad range of activities. These include a variety of classes, addresses from speakers (both local and international), Coast to Coast days and exhibitions. Now with almost a hundred members, our Kapiti Guild was well represented on the committee responsible for organising and running the highly successful Quilt Wellington Symposium, in 2009. Our share of the profits from this symposium has since provided subsidies for classes and bus trips for our members. Community involvement is an important focus for us. Since making quilts for those disadvantaged by the Paekakariki floods of October 2003, various groups of our members have been involved in a variety of community projects. Amongst others, more recent recipients of our quilts have been the Cancer Society, Wellington hospital neo-natal unit, Women's Refuge and those made homeless by the Christchurch earthquakes, as well as children from families affected by Greymouth's Pike River mine explosion. So while several small groups of quilters continue to meet in the community, our Guild has achieved our aim of enabling quilters on the Kapiti Coast to meet and share their passion for the craft, on a larger scale.
